Element Brooklyn is now a member of 1% for the Planet

We are pleased to announce that we have joined Planet's 1% Business Network and pledged to donate 1% of our annual sales to support organizations focused on preserving and restoring the environment.

What does certification mean?

In 2002, the founder of outdoor clothing company Patagonia created 1% for the Planet to help facilitate business partnerships with grassroots environmental organizations. 1% has teamed up with numerous environmental partners to focus on six core issues: climate change, food, land, pollution, water and wildlife. Each business certified by 1% for the Planet chooses an environmental partner and donates 1% of their sales directly to them.

Our partnership

We have decided to partner with Urban Ocean Lab, a Brooklyn-based think tank that crafts policy aimed at rejuvenating coastal ecosystems and preparing coastal cities for the threats posed by climate change. They combine a range of fields and issues including ecosystem rehabilitation, regenerative ocean farming, offshore renewable energy, and infrastructure to combat rising sea levels. Currently, they are working on a comprehensive 'Blue New Deal' to create a framework for coastal cities throughout the country. Urban Ocean Lab is doing critical work, and we are thrilled to support them in helping to improve our oceans and coastal cities.

How does this align with Element’s mission?

Our company was founded with the goal of producing high-quality products that use significantly less plastic than industry standards. A staggering amount of plastic ends up in the ocean, degrading ecosystems and poisoning wildlife. The work of Urban Ocean Lab is helping to create a more sustainable and ecologically harmonious future, and we are pleased to contribute to their important mission.
