Reusing your candle jar is not only the right thing to do, it's also extremely easy. Watch our video or scroll down for step-by-step instructions.

Method 1: Freezer (recommended)

Stop burning your original candle when there is about 1/3 of an inch of wax left. If you burn it further, you may damage the container.

  1. Make sure the candle is at room temperature. If you freeze a recently lit candle, the glass may crack.
  2. Put the candle in the freezer and wait at about 2 hours.
  3. Loosen the wax with a blunt knife (such as a butter knife) and pry it from the bottom of the container.
  4. Clean the container with soap and water (if necessary).

Method 2: Hot water (also works!)

Stop burning your original candle when there is about 1/3 of an inch of wax left. If you burn it further, you may damage the container.

  1. Boil water and pour it into the container, leaving some space at the top.
  2. Wait at least 20 minutes.
  3. Most of the wax will float to the top. Remove it and empty the container.
  4. Try to remove any remaining wax from the bottom of the container; if necessary, repeat the process.
  5. Clean the container with soap and water.
